Acts 16:25-40, Your breakthrough through prayer and praise!
Prayer and Praise bring power of God in your life (Acts 16:25-28)
Paul and Silas were put into prison because they had delivered a girl from the control of the evil spirit and the slavery of the slave owners. This girl received new life in Christ but the slave owners were very angry with Paul and Silas because they had lost the business through this girl. The whole crowd joined with the slave owners to persecute Paul and Silas. Instead of complaining, Paul and Silas were praying and praising God in the midnight. Suddenly there was a violent earthquake and the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once, the prison doors flew open, and everybody’s chain came loose. Jailor woke up and when he saw what had happened, he wanted to kill himself because he thought all the prisoners have run away. But Paul shouted: “Don’t harm yourself! We are all here!” Praise brings power in your life for positive and hopeful things to happen, it will lift you up! The prayer and praise to God will bring breakthrough of power in your life.
Prayer and Praise bring the presence of God in your life (Acts 16:29-34)
Jailer called for lights, rushed and fell trembling before Paul and Silas, he then brought them out of the prison cell and asked: What must I do to be saved? Paul answered: “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved (Acts 16:31 and Romans 10:9-10).” Paul preached and explained the word of God to the Jailor and the whole big family listened about salvation through Jesus Christ. Jailer who was cruel and tough to give severe punishment was a changed person full of love and kindness. Tears of repentance must be falling from his eyes. This Jailer who chained Paul and Silas, he washed their wounds, then immediately he and all his family were baptized (v.33) and became Christians. God can change your enemies into friends. God will set a table of hospitality before your enemies (Psalm 23). The presence of God’s forgiveness, love and compassion was flowing through the acts of kindness all over the prison. Prayer, praise and preaching changes the atmosphere with the presence of God’s love and forgiveness flowing from the hearts of transformed people. Jailor went ahead in showing hospitality by bringing them to his house and set a meal before them (v.34).
Prayer and Praise brings people together (Acts 16:35-40)
Something greater happens when we pray, praise and preach the gospel. People come together to be the part of God’s family. Even officers realized that they were wrong in putting Paul and Silas into prison without trial. Sometimes, people can accuse you, they won’t give you a chance to explain your situation, but God will fight for you when you bring your injustice and unfair condition to God in prayer and praise in your pain. The officers asked Jailor to release Paul and Silas. Jailor brought the message of magistrates to Paul and Silas that they will be released. Now they could go in peace. Paul and Silas did take it lightly. They demanded apology and protection in coming out of the prison. Paul and Silas as God’s people were honoured once again. There is a time to be silent but we need to stand for the justice. It is time to show that they can’t just persecute Christians without any reasons or without any trial. We need to stand for our rights. (v.37). Paul and Silas went to Lydia’s house and received hospitality and encouraged everyone in the Lord. When God’s people pray, praise and preach the gospel, they receive God’s power, experience God’s presence and they inspire others to become part of God’s loving family.
